I respect your privacy. This website does not use advertising, marketing pixels, or non-essential cookies.

Analytics

I use a self-hosted Umami instance for privacy-preserving, aggregate analytics to understand how this website is used and to improve it.

Umami does not use cookies or browser local storage. It processes technical information such as the pages visited, referring website, browser and device information, and approximate location. Umami uses the IP address, user agent, and website ID to generate a pseudonymous session identifier. The IP address is used for that calculation but is not stored in the Umami analytics data. I do not use Umami to identify you personally, and this website does not send names, email addresses, account IDs, or other personal information to it.

Browser storage

This website stores three things in your browser, all on your device only and never sent anywhere. Your chosen theme, so the site does not change appearance between visits. The daily chess puzzle from the home page, so that revisiting the page does not fetch it again. And the card style you last picked in the guestbook, so the form opens on it next time. Clearing your site data removes all three.

The guestbook

Signing the guestbook publishes what you write. The name, the message or drawing, the optional link and the card style are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database and shown to everyone who visits the page. No IP address, email address or account is stored with the entry.

Entries stay until I remove them. Write to me at pesto@alapin.fyi if you want yours taken down, or if you signed with something you would rather not have published, and I will delete it.

Third parties

The daily tactic on the home page is fetched from lichess.org when you open that page. That request reaches lichess directly from your browser, so it carries your IP address and user agent, and is covered by their privacy policy rather than mine. No other page on this website contacts a third party.

Hosting and retention

The website is published through Cloudflare Workers. Serving a page requires Cloudflare to process your IP address, and their privacy policy covers what they do with it.
